R2S approach
Different look, different perspective
Look through the eyes of pupils. Thatis the motto of Route2School! Accident figures identify unsafe traffic locations, provide insight into the demographic background of traffic victims, and thus offer a basis for shaping the traffic policy of a city or municipality. They remain an important pillar in Route2School's (R2S) road safety analysis, but the R2S team looks beyond accident data alone. We encourage local authorities to look at things from a different perspective: that of pupils, students, parents, teachers, and school administrators.
We are interested in hearing about real experiences on the way to and from school. In a street with a lot of bus traffic, for example, vulnerable road users may feel intimidated by the buses arriving and departing, yet accidents are rare. Our ambition is to improve the sense of safety in these specific situations as well.

Why Route2School?
Our mission is to ensure a safe route to school for every child.
Four out of ten children involved in a traffic accident are on their way to or from school, and more than nine out of ten of these accidents happen outside the immediate school environment. In addition, 80% of children between the ages of six and fourteen are afraid in traffic.
We want to change this, which is why we developed Route2School (R2S). To improve road safety on school routes, schools and municipalities need to take action. However, these measures can only be implemented once the problems have been identified. That is why the Route2School project helps schools and municipalities to thoroughly analyze road safety on school routes and the travel behavior of students.
