05/03/2018 – From now on, Route2school will also help to improve the road safety on school routes in city region Turnhout. Concretely, Turnhout, Oud-Turnhout, Vosselaar and Beerse will join the team and will help to create digital school route maps.
On Sunday, March 4, the children’s city council hit the road, in the snow, to be the first to test the Route2school application in their municipality. They did not have to go far to meet their first bottleneck. A parked car on a cycling path or a dangerous crossing are things that occur often on school routes.
The bottlenecks that will be reported, will be analysed and then, a solution has sought. Gilles Bultinck, counsellor of youth in Vosselaar, says that drastic measures are not always needed to improve road safety on school routes. “Promoting alternative and relatively unknown school routes can already be a solution.”
RTV hit the road with the children and asked their opinion. You can watch the full coverage (in Dutch) here.
